About A Day Without Sunshine.
This event contains adult language or content. This is a staged reading of a new play by Michael McKeever, Directed by Stuart Meltzer. In 1977 Miami, Florida, Dade County Commissioner Ruth Shack sponsored a pioneering ordinance banning discrimination against homosexuals. Over the next five months, a campaign led by singer Anita Bryant attempted to overturn the ruling. This battle transformed American gay rights activism and galvanized religious conservative efforts against the queer community. This is the story of the people behind the headlines. Presented with the support of SAVELGBTQ and part of the Amplify Arts Initiative.
